The engravings are antiqued with oil based paint. 

The dark antique background is an oil-based paint that’s baked on for durability. While it will hold up well to normal wear, it may fade over time and require reapplication. Avoid exposing the band to harsh chemicals (e.g., acetone, paint thinner, nail polish remover) and do not wear it in chlorinated pools or hot tubs, as these can cause premature wear.
